Cat® Next Generation Excavators

Increase Efficiency, Reduce Fuel Consumption, and Slash Maintenance Costs.

Technology is key. Let increased efficiency, reduced fuel consumption, and slashed maintenance costs come naturally. These next generation models come standard with Cat Grade, Cat Grade with Assist, E-Fence, and Cat Payload on our 320 GC, 320, 323, 325, 330 GC, 330, 336 GC, 336, and 395 models. Straight from the factory, your next generation excavator can help you better manage your time, money, and effort on the job. Each purpose-built standard feature equipped in these next generation models gives you the upper hand on getting the job done right.

Cat Grade can help all operators, regardless of skill level, work faster and more accurately. It’s a simple guidance system—easy to deploy, easy to learn and easy to upgrade if your needs change. See how this technology saves you time and money.

Cat Grade with Assist automates boom, bucket and swing functions typically performed by the operator. The result? High-efficiency, low-effort grading with less fuel and materials. And there’s no extra infrastructure required. See how this simple, scalable system works.

The e-fence feature automatically stops excavator motion using boundaries you set in the monitor for the entire working envelope—above, below, front and sides. It protects your assets, prevents operator fatigue and reduces the risk of fines related to zoning or underground utility damage. See more on how it works.

Cat Payload measures load weight on-the-go and displays it in the cab in real time. With easy access to information about current load status, the operator can achieve loading targets faster and more accurately with less over- or under-loading. That means higher efficiency, lower costs and enhanced safety. See Payload in action.

There’s money to be made when work gets done fast—and done right the first time. That’s the essence of efficiency: delivering on your promise with no wasted time, effort, energy or resources. You can increase efficiency by up to 45 PERCENT with these next generation models. Here’s how.

The big efficiency booster on these next generation models is a breakthrough technology called Cat Grade with Assist. It’s an easy-to-use 2D system that automates key boom and bucket functions. How you might ask? Overall, Cat Grade with 2D is a simple bucket guidance system that helps you navigate precise depth, slope and horizontal distance to grade – helping you reach desired grade quickly and accurately. The operator just enters desired depth and slope on the monitor, presses a button and lets technology do the rest—quickly, accurately and with far less effort. Customers report it’s nearly twice as fast as traditional grading methods and studies confirm it burns up to 25 percent less fuel (more on this next).

Want more efficiency? Using the system’s E-fence feature enables the machine to work safely under structures or near traffic by preventing any part of the excavator from moving outside operator-defined set points. Additionally, Cat Payload tracks and delivers load weight to the cab in real time so the operator can meet loading targets faster and more precisely. The standard 2D system, integrated on the Cat next generation excavators at the factory, can be upgraded to Cat Grade with Advanced 2D or Cat Grade with 3D for even greater accuracy.

You buy it, then burn it—all day, every day. If you’re using fuel wisely, you’re growing your business with every tank. But if your crew isn’t careful, real profits are going up in smoke. Next generation Cat® Excavators deliver the power you need to work profitably, but burn up to 25 PERCENT less fuel than their predecessors. Here’s how.

Cat engineers attacked the fuel challenge from every angle, adjusting variables until the best solution emerged… a precise combination of engine speed and hydraulic pump size, delivered in a machine that works hard and saves fuel through the following features:

  • Electronic controls automatically cut engine speed when there’s no demand from the hydraulic system, so you don’t waste fuel.
  • Power settings—including a new Smart Mode—match hydraulic demand to engine speed for maximum fuel efficiency.
  • The cooling system uses multiple fans that independently control hydraulic oil, radiator and aftercooler temps. It’s more efficient than a single-fan system that has to cool based on the hottest component.
  • A new main control valve eliminates pilot lines. Fewer lines = less power loss = better fuel efficiency. Plus there’s less hydraulic oil to buy, use and dispose of safely.
  • Positive flow control sends power and pressure exactly where and when it’s needed, cutting cycle time and saving fuel.
  • Boom regeneration and flow control are managed automatically to enable quick, precise loading with less fuel.

How much can you actually save on fuel with a next generation Cat Excavator? It depends on where you work and what you do. But when you compare these next generation excavators to previous models in similar applications, running 1,000 hours per year, the math looks like this:

It’s a wrench-turner’s dream: long intervals, perfectly timed so you’re not always pulling the machine out of service. Filter locations that make sense. And checkpoints you can reach without climbing all over the iron. Easy-maintenance design on next generation Cat® Excavators can lower costs by as much as 15 PERCENT.

All daily maintenance checks for engine oil, fuel water separator, fuel tank water and sediment, and cooling system level are performed from ground level, making the routine faster, easier and safer. Offering extended and more synchronized maintenance intervals, next generation Cat excavators do more work at a lower cost and reduce maintenance costs through the following features. The new Cat hydraulic return filter that boasts a 3,000-hour service life. A new Cat air filter with integrated pre-cleaner and primary and secondary filters that extend service life to 1,000 hours. A new fuel tank cap filter that extends service life to 2,000 hours while each of the three fuel system filters offer a 500-hour service interval.

On the 320 and 323, Cat Link technology is standard. Information directly from your machine systems can help you do maintenance only when it’s needed, such as:

  • Product Link™ is onboard hardware that captures information about location, utilization, fuel burn and more while you work.
  • VisionLink® is a web interface that lets you view and analyze data from any device—then use it to guide maintenance planning and equipment management decisions.
